MapSource 6.7 verfügbar!

Hi,

wenn man in MapSource 6.5 oder 6.6.2beta die Softwareaktualisierung aufruft, kan man auf MapSource 6.7 updaten!

Auf den Downloadseiten ist MapSource 6.7 noch nicht verfügbar. Das wird vermutlich in den nächsten Tagen folgen, sobald die Installation der 6.7 Bugfrei abläuft, was sie im Moment noch nicht tut.

Hier zunächst mal das Änderungslog

<span style='font-family:Courier'>MapSource Version 6.5 to 6.7 Differences

1. This will be the last version of MapSource to support reading/importing PCX5 files. For future compatibility, please migrate your data to the GPX format.
2. Added route road and area avoidances. To access avoidances, select "Manage Route Avoidances" on the Routing tab of the preferences dialog. Once avoidances are created, they are displayed on the main map if appropriate for the current map product.
3. Added "Auto" option to the display of route avoidances. This will hide route avoidances when the map is zoomed out far enough.
4. Added new "large" 24x24 pixel waypoint and map symbols. Select these symbols on the Display tab of the preferences dialog. Custom waypoint symbols can now be 24x24 and 32-bit color as well.
5. Added the ability to show or hide the left hand (user data) pane.
6. Added tooltips to the waypoint symbol selector with the name of the waypoint type.
7. Added celestial information dialog.
8. Added schema extension to GPX for handling Garmin-specific data elements, such as waypoint depth. The location of the schema is documented in outputted GPX files.
9. Updated the GPX Garmin extension (GPXXv1) to version 2 (GPXXv2) based on comments. GPXXv1 will not be supported.
10. Added ability to manually set the Y-axis endpoints on vertical profile plots.
11. Added "rest area" find subcategory.
12. Added artificial reef and oil rig map symbols.
13. Removed real-time tracking from MapSource. Use nRoute for PC real-time tracking applications.
14. Made several map rendering performance improvements.
15. Improved algorithm for selecting maps around tracks and routes.
16. Improved error handling while transferring data to removable media and Garmin cards.
17. Improved autoroute ETE accuracy.
18. Improved MapSource's behavior on a PC with multiple monitors.
19. Changed wrecks, obstructions, and isolated dangers to display the corresponding spot depth when it is known. This is enabled by turning on "Spot Soundings" in the Display preferences page.
20. Changed MapSource to use Windows XP styles on PC's that support this.
21. Changed the track vertical profile to use the same graphing style as the route vertical profile.
22. Change to not display find category types that aren't valid for a particular map product.
23. Change to optimize deleting multiple waypoints from a route.
24. Change to reduce flickering of pop-ups on the map.
25. Change to validate trackpoint timestamps before they are sent to a unit.
26. Change to make user and non-user waypoint dialogs have consistent "Show on Map" behavior.
27. Changed waypoint symbol images to remove duplicate symbols.
28. Change to more gracefully handle the case where a user transferring maps to a Palm doesn't have enough hard drive space.
29. Changed behavior of toolbar combo boxes to behave more like standard combo boxes.
30. Change to show stacked pop-up windows over densely packed map features.
31. Changed behavior of some BlueChart map features to display the name instead of depth.
32. Change so that GPX route import doesn't always autoname the route.
33. Changed formatting of Japanese address results.
34. Changed the default "Terrain Shading" option on the preferences display page to be on.
35. Changed vertical profile windows so that they remember their last size and position.
36. Changed string "iQue" in Device dialog to "Palm OS Device".
37. Changed waypoints timestamp to not be updated when changing certain fields in the waypoint, such as symbol or display type.
38. Fixed issue performing "Select maps around" feature when in the No Map product.
39. Fixed issues with short route avoidances avoiding the wrong places.
40. Fixed issues with MapSource opening GPX files with Garmin extensions.
41. Fixed issue drawing selected subsections of tracks on the map.
42. Fixed issue associated with having Worldmap 3.02 and many newer products installed at the same time.
43. Fixed issue on the find places dialog with the reset button not properly clearing fields.
44. Fixed properties for some features not correctly showing their category and subcategory.
45. Fixed import of GPX files to handle prefixed names.
46. Fixed parsing of custom waypoint symbol image names to only allow numeric names, such as "003.bmp".
47. Fixed issue with selecting maps around routes or tracks with only one point.
48. Fixed issue with some XML files using a large amount of memory to import.
49. Fixed issue where sometimes columns in the track dialog list control were improperly hidden.
50. Fixed issue with partial string searching in the name field of the find places dialog.
51. Fixed find results with elevation information in the name to use the proper units.
52. Fixed issue related to renaming a route while looking at the driving directions.
53. Fixed issue with slow UI response while hovering over some areas with the map tool.
54. Fixed issues related to saving user data on Garmin cards.
55. Fixed issue in route dialog with multiple selections being ignored when "Center map on selected item" option is checked.
56. Fixed issues during map rendering.
57. Fixed issue while zooming in to a found city.
58. Fixed issue in the find places dialog with displaying a street name with an "&" character in the name.
59. Fixed route speed preferences to set Autobahn speeds to the highest speed category.
60. Fixed issue with find places dialog field auto-completion in some Asian languages.
61. Fixed issue with the route dialog's insert waypoint dialog having odd initial selections.
62. Fixed issue with trying to change the waypoint symbol on a Windows 98/ME PC.
63. Fixed issue with MapSource not using the current datum when exporting DXF.
64. Fixed issue with routes calculated in autorouting map products being transferred to non-autorouting GPS's. This caused the via point list on the GPS to have incorrect names.
65. Fixed feature category and subcategory filtering in find nearest dialog.</span>

Das automatische Softwareupdate funktioniert zwar, jedoch gibt es wohl wieder ein Problem mit der deutschen Menüführung. Wählt man nämlich 'Deutsch' bei der Installation aus, erscheint man starten der 6.7 dann wieder ein Fehler vom Typ 'Missing Language-DLL' und MapSource 6.7 startet nicht.

Spätestens jetzt merkt man das so ein automatischer Softwareupdate nicht immer hilfreich ist, weil man ersmal die MapSource67.exe-Datei suchen muss. Diese wird automatisch in das Verzeichnis

C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<ANMELDENAMEN>\Lokale Einstellungen\Temporary Internet Files

kopiert.

Eine nochmalige Installation aber in englisch funktioniert. Es sscheint so zu sein, das keine deutsche Language-DLL mitgeliefert wird. Bei der erstmaligen Installation wurde die Language-DLL der 6.2.2beta nicht ausgetauscht. Bei der nachfolgenden englischen Installation wurde die neue englische Language-DLL installiert. Und bei jeder weiteren Installation mit deutscher Menüführung wird die englische Language-DLL beibehalten.
Es scheint also keine deutsche Language-DLL im Installationspacket vorhanden zu sein. Warten wir also auf das Update des Updates.

Also eigentlich sollte man wohl noch ein zwei Tage warten können bis das offizielle Update da ist...
Aber falls man sehr neugierig ist, dann über die bei Silvia&Kurt beschriebene Weise updaten, aber als Sprache Englisch auswählen, dann funktioniert alles wie es soll!!
Die Final 6.7 ist also lediglich noch nicht "lokalisiert".

Als ich heute morgen JLackys und Kurts Meldungen sah, dass Installieren mit deutscher Menüführung noch nicht funktioniert, habe ich halt sofort die Sprache Englisch gewählt –keine Probleme.

Jetzt verwende ich, in englischer Sprache, eine höhere Versionsnummer. Kurt, warum ist die „schlimmer als die Betaversion“ ? Noch ein Hinweis: die Installationsdatei fand ich mit dem Namen MAPSOURCE67[1].EXE (nicht MS67.EXE), was auch immer [1] bedeuten mag.

Die Dateigröße von etwa 8.4 MB (Version 6.5: 11.6 MB) lässt vermuten, dass noch Übersetzungen fehlen. Das Weglassen „real-time-tracking“ wird wohl nicht so starke Verschlankung bewirken.

also ich sehe das auch so.

GARMIN hat das Update offiziell bereitgestellt, da es ganz offizell über die Updatefunktion in MapSource abgerufen werden kann. Hätte man eine Einschränkung gemacht, das nur die Anwender der Betaversion das Update laden können, wäre das OK gewesen. Aber es können ja auch ganz ofiziell Anwender der 6.5 das Update laden.
Gerade über das Wochenende werden viele User sich das Update ziehen und wenn sie nicht die englische Sprachversion auswählen böse auf die Nase fallen. (Spanisch geht übrigens auch nicht, die anderen Sprachen habe ich nicht getestet.)

Wenn ich mal so die letzten Monate zurückblicke, hat GARMIN fast jede neue Version einer Software in den Sand gesetzt:

- CitySelect 7 läuft auf W2K und WIN XP nur wenn der User Adminrechte hat.

- nRoute hatte in der letzten Version auch zunächst Probleme mit der Language-DLL

- Nach der Installation der letzten Version der TrainingsCenter-Software vom FR301, hat MapSource per USB keine Geräte mehr gefunden. Die Trainingscenter-Software übrigens auch nicht.

- Und jetzt die Aktion mit MapSource und der Language-DLL

Ich kann ja verstehen das GARMIN evtl. unter Zeitdruck stand und bis Anfang nächter Woche eine Lösung präsentieren musste, weil die 6.6.2Beta dann abläuft. Aber selbst wenn es nur eine englische Sprachversion gibt, dann stelle ich doch auch nur diese Sprachversion zu Verfügung, und lasse nicht das Update den User'n die Installation zerschiessen.

Wir alle hier wissen doch, wie übel MapSource reagiert wenn irgendwas an der Installation oder den Registry-Einträgen nicht stimmt. Und es kostet immer einen Haufen Zeit diese Probleme dann einzugrenzen, und zu beheben. Mir tun nur all die anderen Anwender leid, die dann hilflos vor dem PC sitzen und nicht weiter wissen.

Ich vermute mal das am Montag die Version 6.7 wieder schlagartig vom GARMIN-Server verschwunden ist.

Ja, das kommt daher, das die italienische Installation keine eigene Language-DLL installiert, sondern die verwendet, die schon im MapSource-Verzeichnis liegt.

Und da im MapSource-Verzeichnisch schon die englsiche-DLL der Version 6.7 liegt läuft alles, wie nach einer englischen Installation.

Nur halt die User die erstmalig von der 6.5 oder 6.6beta z.B. in Deutsch updatet, behalten weiter hin die alte Language-DLL. Und MapSource überprüft beim Start vermutlich, ob die Programmversion von MapSource und der Language-DLL identisch sind, und dann kommt es zu dem Fehler.

Nur wenn man dann nochmal manuell die Installation in englisch durchführt, erhält man erstmalig die Language-DLL in der Version 6.7. Und danach ist es egal, welche Sprachversion man nochmals darüber installiert. Die englsiche DLL liegt dann ja schon im MapSource-Verzeichnis.

Eigenlich hätte die Installationsroutine in der Lage sein müssen immer die englische DLL zu installieren, wenn die entsprechende Sprach-DLL nicht vorhanden ist.

Allerdings: vielleicht liegt der Unterschied darin, dass ich von 6.6.2 beta ausgegangen bin (zwangsweise englisch) und nicht von der deutschsprachigen 6.5.

Die Datei die Heute auf der offiziellen Downloadseite steht ist exakt die gleiche Datei die man schon letzte Woche über den automatischen Download erhlaten hat. Diese Datei enthält nur die englische Sprachversion.

Gleiche Beobachtung wie JLacky: identische EXE-Datei. Aber kein Problem beim Ausführen (im Gegesatz zur zu Kurts Meldung). Allerdings hatte ich schon 6.7 in englischer Sprache.

Nachtrag: kleines Kuriosum, das Update hat bei Garmin das Datum 3.8., die sind etwas unserer Zeit voraus!
