Betreff: Additional features for GPSMap276 Firmware Update (2.9 Beta)
To whom it may concern,
I was very pleased to see the announcement about the 2.9 beta version of the GPSMap276 firmware.
I travel a lot with my motorbike around Europe (about 20000 km this year with GPSMap276) and experienced the 276 as the most advanced and convenient GPS device ever.
The list of fixed issues and added features is long and almost all of my personal top ten "to be changed" issues are addressed, for example custom avoids and custom road preferences or elevation in track log.
But i still miss two features urgently:
Number 1 on my personal top ten "to be changed issues" was (and still is) auto zoom limit. I want to have auto zoom limited to a certain map scale set by myself. Currently after passing a point where I got a direction from the device auto zoom chooses a map scale that makes the next point of direction visible on the screen. If this point is far away (say 50 km) then you are not able to identify anything in the proximity of the route you are riding on. What I want to have is to set a limit (say 1.2 km) and if auto zoom wants to zoom out then it gets limited to the chosen map scale.
You can even enhance this feature to have an auto zoom limit inside and outside of built-up areas, for example having a default map scale of 1.2 km outside and 300 m inside built-up areas.
Auto zoom limit would be for me on my motorbike trips a huge enhancement.
The other feature is a POI filter. On tour, I usually do not need to know all the car parks, restaurants and other kinds of POIs except gas stations. If I have to pass a bigger town then the display is cluttered up with POI symbols and I cannot read anything. If I press ENTER to declutter, I do not see street names and where gas stations are located. This is not really useful. What I need is a POI filter (selects POIs to be displayed on the map) or a setup feature to set-up the map scale a POI is displayed at for every single POI category.
For me personally it would be sufficient to have a function within MapSource that filters POI information to be transferred to the device (transfer map data function). I have a laptop computer always with me.
I would apreciate to see my proposals to be considered for future firmware releases.
Best regards,
